Towards the end of the year, I like to take a moment to reflect on the progress and achievement that has taken place at Birchwood Hotel during the year. It is a time for me to recollect my thoughts and appreciate what there is to be thankful for. Here are four of my highlights this year at Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre.
- In February, we launched ValuStay @ Birchwood, for the minimalistic, cost-conscious traveller and touring and sports groups. Just another way in which we are constantly striving to meet our guests’ requirements.
- In March, we welcomed back an old friend, Maurice Strijp, as Director of Operations. Maurice joined the hotel in 1998 and, over the years, progressed to GM, playing a large role in the hotel’s growth. It has been wonderful to have Maurice’s leadership and guidance return to the hotel.
- Each month has seen our Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evenings grow from strength to strength thanks to the dedication and hard work of many members of our team. Today the monthly jazz evenings are a sold out affair attracting jazz lovers from all over Gauteng, ensuring locals and guests are kept entertained throughout the year by the best jazz artists the country has to offer.
- Birchwood Hotel won the Best Venue Hire and Must-Hire Venue for Private Functions Awards at the 2016 Best of Ekurhuleni Reader’s Choice Awards Ceremony; as voted by 350 000 homes in the Ekurhuleni municipality. This was a great honour for us and we are proud to have been recognised by the residents of Ekurhuleni for our services to the community.
During the holiday season our thoughts turn gratefully to those who have made this progress possible; our wonderful staff compliment, who share our loyalty, dedication and commitment to the industry; as well as our loyal conferencing clients, event organisers, conferencing agents, hotel guests and event sponsors. In this spirit we say thank you and wish you happy holidays and a prosperous New Year!
