IFV Ke Nako Africa
Ke Nako – It's time to meet and celebrate! Experience the platform for African hospitality, cultural exchange, international dialogue and friendship, the International Football Village offers at its very centre the so called Ke Nako Plaza, a place for people to meet and celebrate together.
Ke Nako Africa – The Exhibition
At the heart of Ke Nako Plaza, visitors will find a unique meeting point, an exhibition of true (South) Africa, a platform displaying cultural, economic, social and political references, a place where Africa meets the world: Ke Nako Africa – The Exhibition.
Organised by the South African department for Sports and Recreation (SRSA), Ke Nako Africa – The Exhibition unites representatives and contributors from business, culture and sports. The joint presentation will be a home for exhibitors from national and international organisations (e.g. SADC), African countries, African and international enterprises, nongovernmental organisations, cultural exhibitors and artists from all over Africa.
The exhibition will be enhanced by cultural and sports performances, project showcases as well as innovative dialogue formats. An ambitious and lively information and dialogue process is set to promote and publicise the experiences and projects of the individual partners. It will strengthen their capacities for cooperation and investments in the region.
Ke Nako Africa – The Stage
Ke Nako – The Stage is a large outdoor stage which will host famous and upcoming Southern African artists. Performances include celebrated music bands and theatre groups from all over Southern Africa, traditional dance performances by South African youths as well as short film screenings. Furthermore, high-profile discussions on political and economic issues will take place on the stage. During the World Cup football matches, supreme sunny outdoor public viewing will be featured at Ke Nako – The Stage.

23 June, 11H00 – 12H30, Ellis Park Stadium at IFV Youth Development through Sport Morning Talk on
"Drama on the Playground – Football and theatre as tools of youth development" Emotion, passion and an excited audience – football and theatre have more in common that one might think. Both attract a lot of attention which can be used to raise awareness and disseminate educational messages on development issues. The panel discussion will be introduced by a performance of the Esperance Football Forum Theatre.
24 June, 11H00 – 12H15, Ke Nako Plaza Visits of the German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Dirk Niebel, the Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Tomáz Salomão and the Minister of Sport & Recreation South Africa, Minister Rev. Makhenkesi Stofile (tbc) On 24 June, Ke Nako Africa will serve as a platform for political visits and bilateral meetings of significant politicians from Africa and Europe. The German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Dirk Niebel, is expected to visit the Ke Nako Africa exhibition together with the Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Tomáz Salomão, and the Minister of Sport& Recreation South Africa, Minister Rev. Makhenkesi Stofile (tbc). Subsequently, bilateral political talks are scheduled to take place.
24 June, 11H30 – 13H30, Soccer City Stadium at IFV SADC Panel Discussion on Regional Cooperation
Also on 24 June, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will host a panel discussion on the theme of "Benefits of regional cooperation to improve the socio-economic development in Southern Africa". Panellists include high-ranking officials from SADC and the South African government.
24 June, 18H00 – 19H00, Arena at IFV Lira concert
World-class singer Lira will perform at Ke Nako Africa in the framework of the Public-Private-Partnership between Volkswagen and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH. The concert is starting at 18H00.
26 June, 11H30 – 12H30, Ellis Park Stadium at IFV Youth Development through Sport Morning Talk on "Is it a Man's Game? – Empowering girls through football"
The empowerment of girls and young women is one of the key factors of development. Young women are often faced with the attitude that females should not participate in male-dominated activities – be in it school, be it at work, be it within the family. Football is a way to enable young women to make gender equality a reality.

Sport has established itself as a field of development cooperation – especially with regard to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But what is the future of the sport approach within development cooperation? Has sport been merely one of the many trends of development cooperation, or will the concept be able to sustain its current rise in attention and scope?
29 June, 10H00 – 13H00, Soccer City Stadium at IFV Sport, Business and Development Day
Sport and especially football has become a multi-billion business. But sport is more t han just a market-place: an increasing number of private companies is getting involved in the field of sport for development – be it through Public Private Partnerships, Corporate Social Responsibility or Sustainable Business measures. The day will be started with a get together, followed by a key-note speech, a panel discussion and a reception.
2 July, Soccer City Stadium at IFV Energy Day
The issue of energy is one of the most important and most dynamic fields of the development efforts of Southern Africa. SADC will host an entire Energy Day on 2 July, consisting of a get-together of relevant stakeholders, two key-note addresses and a panel discussion including high-ranking actors from politics, business and development cooperation – as well as a joint public viewing of a World Cup match. The major topics of the day will be renewable energy in Southern Africa and investment in energy infrastructure.
2 July, from 13H00, Ke Nako Plaza Northern Cape Youth at Ke Nako Africa in cooperation with Nike
As part of the Public-Private-Partnership between Sport and Recreation South Africa, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH and Nike, 120 school children from Northern Cape will come to Ke Nako Africa on 2 July to participate in activities that combine football with life skills training.
3 July, 14H00 – 15H30, Soccer City Stadium at IFV Youth Development through Sport Morning Talk on "After the Final – What is the legacy of the World Cup for Africa?"
The FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa is the first one on African soil. From Sepp Blatter to Jacob Zuma and Nelson Mandela, officials are continuously declaring it an African World Cup. But the financial investments are only made in South Africa, and it is here that new stadia and roads are built and new jobs are created.
7 July, 11H30 – 12H30, Ellis Park Stadium at IFV Youth Development through Sport Morning Talk on "Reaching Kids – HIV/AIDS prevention through football"
One main objectives of football for development approaches is the prevention of HIV/AIDS. Several organizations use football to educate children and youth on the risks of HIV/AIDS, the measures to prevent it, and the necessity of treating people living with HIV/Aids with respect and tolerance.
10 July, Ke Nako Plaza Official Closing Ceremony of Ke Nako Africa
One day before the final of the 2010 World Cup is played, Deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa, Gert Oosthuizen, will register his balance of the FIFA World Cup and the Ke Nako Africa initiative. Meanwhile, the final of the Gauteng Street Soccer Tournament will take place at Ke Nako Africa.
