When people are traveling, they seldom think about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Eating healthy food is the last thing on their minds. A number of people end up eating greasy fast food and some stop their usual exercise routine. Staying active is very important and a number of hotels offer facilities such as gyms and spas. Losing weight might not be possible; however, maintaining your weight is possible especially if you’re on a diet. You can eat healthy and stay active no matter what kind of trip you’re taking.
On the Plane
· International flights are long, however, just because you’re stuck on a plane for hours does not mean you have to eat unhealthy meat and starchy sides the airlines call food. If you’re looking at bringing your own food, think about snaking on healthy food. This includes bananas, apples, nuts, carrots and celery sticks. Include energy bars. Most airlines provide bottled water and provide healthy sandwiches. Also, most menus are more health conscious so it’s wise to take advantage of it.
On the Road
· It’s easy to snack on unhealthy food especially when you’re on the road. Eating fast food can easily look like the ideal choice of food. It’s wise to pack healthy food like fruit, raw veggies and sandwiches from home. It’s also a good idea to restock your stash along the way with offerings from local grocery stores. Remember the bottled water, sitting down for long hours without hydrating can have a negative effect on your health. Drink lots of water from time to time. Make regular pit stops and be on the lookout for cafes and restaurants that are serving healthy choices.
At the Hotel
· When choosing to stay at a Johannesburg hotel airport, choose one that offers a fitness center. Or you could bring your own set of equipment if you’re not happy with the equipment available. Dumbbells and resistance bands fit in most bags. It’s a good idea to bring an exercise program with you, Taebo or Zumba are great choices. One can always jog around the area and you can incorporate exercises such as jumping jacks and squats. Early-morning stretches or stomach crunches before heading out for the day can also be incorporated.
